Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo along the banks of the Mississippi River in Herculaneum, Missouri.Time
We took this photo about an hour before the sun began to set.Lighting
The light from the sun going down was perfect for nice, soft shadows and even coverage of the scene.Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 with a 50mm lens. I kept my aperture below 2.8 to keep the capture depth of field within the confetti. We used bigger pieces of gold foil confetti so they would show up in the photo but also be easier to pick up when we were finished.Inspiration
My daughter and I love to experiment with fun and creative ideas for photos. We had tried a few confetti shots previously but they didn’t turn out quite right. We both nailed it with this shot!Editing
I edit in Lightroom only and never add any extra elements into my photos. A few tweaks with exposure and highlights was about all this photo needed. In my camera bag
My Nikon D750 and 24-120mm lens are always in my bag. It’s versatile enough for what I normally like to shoot without weighing me down.Feedback
Practice and patience are key with shots like this. It may be necessary to make adjustments with shutter speed and aperture settings as you go to capture the look and feel that you want. This photo was one of many attempts to get it just right.
