(original available) Followed the growth cycle of this sparrow family's chicks nesting in the highest corner of our sixth-floor penthouse from newborns until they left the nest. I became quite endeared with this quintet of knuckle-heads. I even had names for them: Bertha, Boris (mom-dad), Bally, Billy and, of course, the legendary Bully. Believe me, he deserves the name. These shots were taken a couple of days after they finally dared leave the nest for the first time. It is basically a flying lesson with a neighbor's cable as base camp, and this is lunch break with the intimidating Bully obviously believing it is only for him. The technical challenges: These guys were going nowhere. Had plenty of time to establish my parameters without rushing. The real challenges were time, physical discomfort and the consequential shake, plus mustering up all the patience I could get a hold of. The payoff was quite handsome.
