Today is World Rhino Day 2018! A good day to remember that we all have a role in helping to preserve habitats and work to end the senseless killing of these animals. They are still killed for their horns, which have no more medicinal value than your fingernails. They are functionally the same. Support educational efforts and legal efforts to prevent their extinction. This is a southern white rhino. A subspecies that is doing fairly well thanks to conservation efforts. The northern white rhino on the other hand, has a global population of 2. Both are female. They are functionally extinct short of a true miracle. Extinction is forever.. and is preventable if we all pay more attention to our global ecosystem and respect it.
