Behind The Lens

Location

As a photojournalist for an online news site I was afforded the luxury of exploring the county I covered to capture the local flavor. This photo was taken in Eagle, NY, located in a rural county in Western New York.

Time

Springtime in a rural county is awash in farming activity. It was mid morning and I was on my way home following an interview for an article I was writing. My route home included a long stretch of road where McCormack’s potato farm lined both sides of the pavement. Prior to even considering this shot I had seen a large plume of dust in the distance. As I drove closer to the “dust”, I saw a farmer plowing his fields. It was my good fortune that the farmer hit an area where I had a clear view of him plowing. I pulled to the shoulder of the road and snapped a few frames.

Lighting

Nature provided me with perfect lighting for this photo.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D7000, 35-70mm lens.

Inspiration

This particular shot was unplanned. As I live in a rural county, springtime is not lacking in farming activity so when an opportunity presents itself, I’ll pull off to the side of the road and snap a few stills.

Editing

No.

In my camera bag

Currently I am using a Nikon D750 and carry two lenses with me at all times - 35-70mm and 70-300mm.

Feedback

Be patient, you may have to wait a bit for a farmer to finish a row and turn to get the angle you’re looking for.
