Early morning before daybreak an Arizona monsoonal storm passed over the famed Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction. I hunkered down under an overhang and made time exposures. I was lucky to photograph the active lightning storm, and fortunate to experience an event such as a monsoonal storm.

Location
The Last Monsoonal Lightning Storm, August 21, 2018-32 was made in Apache Junction, Arizona of the Superstition Mountains.Time
The time of day was early in the morning around 4am. The lightning was awesome.Lighting
The majority of the lighting is mother nature's light supplemented by the artificial light of the folks who were beginning their day, and live next to the mountains.Equipment
I used a Nikon D850 with a wide angle lens. My tripod is a carbon fiber gitzo XL with a 3 way tilt-all head.Inspiration
The breath-taking, hair raising power of this monsoonal storm inspired me to break out my camera and make this photograph.Editing
I used Photoshop to adjust the highlights, midtones, and shadows of the file. Burning and dodging, along with some edge sharpening.In my camera bag
I really use the camera I have in hand or available. My bag consists of a 4x5 field camera, 6x7Pentax (which I have been working with Rollie IR film), Nikon D850, a Nikon coolpix, and a Google Pixel 3.Feedback
Sometimes just being there is an honor. Leave the outside out, and absorb the sense of place. The drama of a scene / a moment of time like this, is an incredible reward we have living life, and absorbing this internally rejuvenates one's battery.
