Location
I took this photo at a small lake called Wallersee. There where we were is the drain into a small creek and in the background grows meter-high reed. As it is protected from the wind we had very calm water and the reed brings the interesting colour and structure into the background.Time
It was about 4:00 in the afternoon. Since I know the location I knew that I would get the light from the front on the model.Lighting
At the shadows on the arm you can see that the sun is already relatively low. Because behind me also are big trees we had for the picture a time window of approx. 15 minutes. Then the sun disappeared behind the trees and the light was gone.Equipment
For this Shot i used a Canon Eos 5 MK4 and the Lens was a Canon EF 70-200mm f2,8 nothing elseInspiration
I wanted to take a summer feeling photo with water and reflection. So I looked for a suitable model and a quiet place at the lake to set the scene in my head.Editing
I used Photoshop to do some skin retouching. With Dodge and Burn I also raised the contrast of the skin a little. Then in Lightroom I raised the saturation a little bit and cut the cutout. In my camera bag
In my Bag i have a Canon Eos1 X and a Eos 5 mark IV. if it goes dirty sometimes i take the Eos 5 mIII. For the studio, I almost pack just fixed focal lengths For traveling i use zoom lenses. Most of my Lenses are from the professional line. Two canon 600RT Flashes with the canon radio trigger and a carbon tripod I use light as i need, if the distance to the model is big i use a Profoto B1 Kit and for shorter distances a Profoto B10 KitFeedback
To take such a photo it is immensely important to know the location. If you have to start to find a place where the water is calm and the background fits, it can happen that the light is gone before you can start to shoot. Because you need a low sun for such photos, planning is simply everything. It's not for an inexperienced model, either. The time window you have is extremely short. That's why you have to be sure that your model doesn't need any warm-up time. Expression and posing have to sit immediately. So my tips if you want to do something like this. - have a look at the location two or three days before. Shortly before it is important because the sun could stand otherwise completely differently. - write down the time with the best light. - be there in time so that you have prepared everything when your time window for the shooting starts. - Find yourself an experienced and reliable model.
