Same for All: A concept that uses comparison to relay a message. comparisons range from old and new, good and bad etc. This piece compares rich and poor, displaying two images of different circumstances but mirror each other.
Women have been subjected to abuse and oppression for centuries, regardless of religion, culture or background. In these images, both women are imprisoned. The woman in jail is imprisoned in the literal sense, and the other is imprisoned by an abusive marriage. Both women although very different, share a similar story.
The woman in jail is imprisoned for trying to stand up for herself with her abusive boyfriend, she killed him in self defence. Instead of her being the victim, she is further oppressed by the system and ends up behind bars. She too was trapped, the moment she freed herself from one form of imprisonment, she ends up serving another literal sentence. Both women still live in tears although now their "prison cells" differ.
This also speaks to why so many women stay in abusive relationships, for the fear of being terrorised by the system. A case of "damned if you don't, damned if you do".
