I adore this photo, it has a fun pop of color to the darkness of the storm.

Behind The Lens

Location

Historical Shorncliffe Pier in Brisbane, at March 25, 2016 saw the re-opening of the new Shorncliffe Pier, formally known as the Sandgate Pier. It was originally designed by architect F.D.G. Stanley and built by the Sandgate Pier Company in 1882. But now it has been renovated again.

Time

Exactly before sunset, we had a severe storm there and it started to rain, thunder and wind. My 5 years old daughter was enjoying walking in the rain with her umbrella, and I had the idea of shooting this scene as it is.

Lighting

Totally natural light, but the most important thing is taking care of the shutter speed to me as long as possible. Long exposure helps you creating the scene without any people in it.

Equipment

Nikon D810 with Tamron 15-30mm, Manfrotto MK2 tripod, shutter trigger cable.

Inspiration

The dramatic sky after the storm, and the joy that my daughter had with her brand new umbrella.

Editing

I edited the photo in lightroom, tweaks in highlights, shadows, whites and blacks, clarity, vibrance and lens correction.

In my camera bag

I have Nikon D810 body with Tamron 70-200 G2, Tamron 15-30 and Nikon 50mm.Shutter trigger cable and tripod, with some lens cleaning materials.

Feedback

Anytime the weather plays up, you will find some fantastic moments after that, after any rain, storm or generally clouds at sunset, you can find the best combination for photography.
