Koyasan, Japan
The Kobo Dashi Mausoleum is an cemetery located in an old growth forest. Large tribute headstones are located throughout this vast space. The mist and fog added to the mystical nature of ancient energy.

Kukai posthumously known as Kōbō-Daishi, was entombed in 835 AD. Many years later, the tomb was opened to find the body in the same position and warm. It is believed that Kobo Dashi's life force is still active over a thousand years later, having entered the state of eternal samadhi.

No cameras are allowed around the main temple, and for good reason. It is a holy place; one that is revered by many Buddhist around Japan. It was a powerful and moving experience to be at an epicenter of this ancient tradition.
