Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my first trip to the United Arab Emirates in Al Badayer Desert in Sharjah. This was my first trip to an Arab country. Since I am a green apple that is emerging in photography, every photography experience is a new lesson learned.

Time

This is my first desert experience. So I made it a point that I enjoyed every bit of it. My cousin tours me and brought me into this desert to experience it hands-on. It was about four in the afternoon and we linger on the desert just before nightfall. The sky was cloudy and it's a perfect opportunity to photograph for there are no deep shadows.

Lighting

The natural light from the environment that is brought about by the cloudy sky has dramatically enhanced the beauty of this photograph. The result has just expressed the deep feeling of excitement inside of me. The perfect natural lighting has captured my feelings that I expressed through photography.

Equipment

I am not used in using a tripod since I am just new, a green apple so to say, in photography. I use a Canon EOS Rebel XTi in taking this photo. I am into photography as a hobby. So, I am enjoying the process and the learnings as I go along. I did not use any flash because the natural lighting of the environment is just perfect for the way I desired to have the result. The lens that I use is 55 mm with an image stabilizer and a 58 mm wide angle lens. I still have a lot to learn and unlearn. But I am enjoying the process. Photography, as a hobby, helps me maintain my sanity (lol).

Inspiration

My cousin Napoleon who was my tour guide and my host was with me and he was the one who inspired me to try photography. My desire to experience the desert for the first time inspired me to take this photo. I would say that one's thoughts and feelings could be captured through photography but not caged though.

Editing

I usually use the one that is installed on my computer the Corel Photoshop Pro X9 (64 bits) and the Pixler as my post-processing. I make use of the things that are available. Just enough to correct some minor flaws. I still have a lot to learn and unlearn in photography and post-processing. That is one of the reasons that I joined ViewBug for exposure and learn more by interacting with the world's best photographers.

In my camera bag

For me, the handiest to fill up my bag is the only camera that I have, the Canon EOS Rebel XTi body. Make the best use of what you have. The 55 mm lens prime and the 300 mm lens prime and a digital slave flash will be handy as the need arises. As a green apple in photography, I have to use the basic equipment in photography. It is not based on how sophisticated are the types of equipment you have but on how you maximize the use of the ones available. I am looking forward to purchasing a Canon 60D. I still have a lot to save and invest in a higher resolution equipment.

Feedback

Patience and openness to learning are the best qualities that a photographer should have. Allow yourself to be amused and surprised by every opportunity and new experiences. Mingle and interact with other photographers who have been masters and experts in this field. To be in ViewBug is the best decision that I made in my life as an emerging photographer. So you ought to do so.
