Behind The Lens

Location

I took this long exposure of the almighty Athabasca Falls in Jasper Alberta. One of the most beautiful waterfall landscapes in all of Canada in my opinion and a photographers dream. Could spend endless hours photographing here or not to far down the road at Sunwapta falls

Time

I took this photo at some time in the afternoon I can't remember the exact time right now but the park was fairly busy with people and the sun was up in the sky.

Lighting

Because of the time of day I decided to throw on my lee filters big stopper so I could achieve a long exposure of the landscape

Equipment

Canon 5d mark iii and canon 35mm usm ii prime for a very crisp and sharp image. with my fotopro tripod, remote trigger, lee filters 100mm filter system, big stopper

Inspiration

Seeing this landscape and other landscapes of Alberta from social media platforms and other photographers galleries it's something as a Canadian photographer I had to go and see for myself. I had a list of locations I wanted to visit so when Canada turned 150 my girlfriend and I went out on a road trip across the country to Alberta and parts of British Columbia. It's something you truly have to see for yourself to grasp how intimidating this landscape and most of the landscapes in Alberta are when they're in front of you.

Editing

I always try to achieve as much as I can in camera but I did some quick editing in lightroom, just adjusting some of the highlights, exposures and contrasts in the shadows. Also adjusted the clarity in the photo since it was a bit hazy from the fires that summer.

In my camera bag

I always carry my 35mm canon, 100mm canon macro and sometimes my 50mm, lens cleaner, kimwhipes, lens pen, air blower, leatherman, fotopro tripod, lee filters 100mm system, big stopper, 0.9 nd graduated filter, remote trigger, camera strap, camera cover, 3 camera batteries, AA batteries, AAA batteries, flashlight, headlight sometimes my canon flash, battery charger, my lensball,

Feedback

when you're exploring new landscapes get a few different perspectives of what you're trying to achieve and if you get the opportunity to revisit the location think about what you would've done differently from the first time to improve you're original idea. Mother Nature's already done all the hard work we just gotta be able to see it.
