Location
This picture was taken in South Lower Saxony, Germany. The region is called Weserbergland, and is a really beautiful spot.Time
We took this photo around 7:30 p.m. on a an incredibly hot and sultry day.Lighting
I simply love this look, that direct backlighting creates. The sun was already very low and produces this very warm and magical light.Equipment
Unfortunately, I only had the D700 with the AF-S 85mm 1:1.4G. Reflector or flashes I didn't have with me.Inspiration
To photograph on a wonderful summer evening in the nature is simply something special. And when there's sunset, there are just great moments to capture.Editing
I used Capture One for the most important things like brightening shadows, optimize contrast and refine the color look. Some steps were done in Photoshop, like slightly Dodge and Burn.In my camera bag
Two bodes (D810 and my old but beloved D700), a few prime lenses ( 85mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.8, 35mm f/1.4), not in my bag, but I love to use them: California Sunbounce with zebra or silver surface (pro for outdoor and mini for indoor). As well as a lot of small things, like Rocket Blower, memory cards (of course), wet wipes and plasters (totally useful, especially when you're on the go for a photo shot).Feedback
Wait until the sun is sunk really deep. You don't have much time now to take photos, but it's worth waiting for it. Get down your aperture for at least a 3/4 stop (don't trust your camera's exposure meter, with full backlight it doen't work very well). Do some test photos and check out the Histogram.
