Behind The Lens

Location

This was a shot of opportunity when I walked out my back door.

Time

After an early morning shower, this Dragonfly was in its last minutes of life. Wet with water drops from the rain giving an even more impressive shot.

Lighting

Early morning is my favorite time to shoot. The light is soft making shooting from any side work well.

Equipment

My Nikon D5300 with Nikkor macro lens was used for this shot. The light was nice so no need for flash.

Inspiration

I have a membership to Audobon Insectarium in NOLA. From my experience shooting there, I fell in love with macro and look for an opportunity to shoot using this lens. I was excited to pull it out at home.

Editing

I used Lightroom to edit this shot for contrast, clarity, as well as, vibrance. The background, the cement, was blurred by camera aperture to bring sharp attention to the dragonfly itself.

In my camera bag

My photography equipment is minimal. In my bag for shooting excursions, I usually carry my Nikkor Macro. My camera, Nikon D5300 with my Tamron 18-400 lens is my go-to combo. My most important item, lol, is my lens cloth! I wear glasses and pressing the camera to my face gives smudges constantly. A clean lens and clean glasses is a must for me.

Feedback

When using a macro lens movement is critical for a crisp focus. This dragonfly was very still so my focus could be spot on. I advise to keep your eyes open around the house. There is often a special something just waiting for capture...one way or another. lol
