This tree is the Newton B. Drury Tree, the fourth largest "single stem" coastal redwood. It was named in honor of Newton B.Drury, the former director of the National Park Service and the Save the Redwoods League, and for whom along with his wife Aubrey, the surrounding grove was dedicated in 1979. This tree is 21 feet in diameter at breast height (DBH is the official measuring standard). It is still 18 feet diameter at 30 feet up and still 16 feet diameter at 100 feet! It is 35,000 cu. ft. in volume...
