Marta Vazquez wears the Catalan flag during the Independence demonstration in Plaza Catalonia in October of 2017. A huge crowd of Catalans gathered in the square, a site of violence mere weeks before, for the announcement of independence. The President came on TV and said Catalonia will have independence, just not right now...a great let down to the crowd. Nine days later Catalonia voted to secede from Spain leading to the eventual arrest of President Puigdemont in Germany as Spain fought back.
