A street vendor selling locally grown tobacco in a small town of the Philippines. On her right you can see a small plastic bag, it contains areca nut and betel leaf. This mixture is chewed with tobacco by many native Filipinos and is a mild stimulant, causing a warming sensation in the body and slightly heightened alertness. Also, it is addictive, not at all healthy, and dyes one's mouth red. Even so, chewing these plants is quite common in Rural areas of the Philippines.
