Location
This image was captured in rural Ontario, Canada. Ripley Ontario to be precise. A beautiful part of the country, situated on the shores of Lake Huron.Time
Against what most will tell you, it is alright to capture images at any time of the day, as long as you pay attention to your subject. This image was captured in the afternoon in mid summer. The sun was fairly high but the hat and hair provided enough shade to frame her face and create an interesting and beautiful result.Lighting
Available light (sun) was used for this image. I understand the huge debate surrounding "natural" light vs flash, strobes etc. Yes light which you can use any time of day and also control completely is both convenient and preferred. Available light, provided by the sun is on the other hand, not as convenient but in my humble opinion is also hard to duplicate. You could argue the merits and shortcomings of both indefinitely, but the fact is they are both simply , light. Use what you have to your best abilities. Do not get caught up in the debate, use that time to harness light and use it to to your advantage. Light is quite simply the only way we are able to create our images, and like your camera, it is a tool. Treat it as such, master it, create.Equipment
This image was simply captured with only a camera. My main camera was unavailable so at the time I was using the first camera I had ever owned, a Nikon D5200 with the kit 18-55 lens. Do not let your tools define your skill. If you are reading this you are a creative. Take what you have and create, excuses are a barrier, break through them.Inspiration
It was a warm sunny summers day, I was in the country with a field of wheat and a beautiful model. The hat, the hair, the light and the composition came together and captured the day as I saw it. I hope the image feels like summer and that the models expression forces you to question her gaze. .Editing
I used lightroom to process the image. The usual, shadow, highlights, clarity and contrast along with a few color tweaks to make the mine.In my camera bag
I normally carry my camera. Lenses. lens cloth, cleaning solution, a notebook, some SD cards and an extra battery. This changes occasionally but that is my standard load.Feedback
I am guilty of rushing shots, as I am sure a few of you may be. I am now forcing myself to slow down, take more time to analyze the surroundings, use everything I can to my advantage. Try to create as much of the image as you want it in real time. That way less time is spent on the computer editing. I find the best images require the least editing, that I think is a worthy goal, try to create images which need little to no editing. Also, create for yourself, do not aim to edit like any other Photographer. The reason the best photographers are where they are is that they created their own style, it is your job to do the same. Enjoy their images, but only compete with yourself.
