Behind The Lens

Location

This is my droopy-eyed nephew, taken in the Netherlands around old year's eve 2013. This is one of the 5000 others I took of his moody cuteness. I can't remember much detail of what we were doing unfortunately.

Time

It was night time.

Lighting

Aperture: f/4.0 ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/60

Equipment

I am a first time digital (Canon Rebel T3) camera owner. I am somewhat new to digital. I was used to medium format film. No other equipment, all manual setting.

Inspiration

I tried to capture the everlasting discontent and slight frustration (towards adults) in his eyes, that pretty much is his default expression, LOL. It humors me he feels that way, he reminds me of me when I was his age.

Editing

My camera is pre set to B&W, with a pre set white balance and on manual shooting.

In my camera bag

My canon, two lenses, and one Holga digi lens. (on shoots, on-camera strobe, ring light, battery pack , +++ the bare-min. requirements for a semi-pro shoot)

Feedback

In this portrait he is telling a story with his eyes big time. I tried to make that stand out. I chose b&w and cropped the shot because it helps emphasize the emotional center of the shot and makes things more intimate for the viewer. I think if I kept the surroundings it would have been somewhat distracting.
