The dead trees in Deadvlei are camel thorns. These trees are very stress resistant. They can withstand high temperatures, drought, but also do not suffer from frost. The camel thorn grows best in sand where her roots can grow up to 60 meters deep into the ground, looking for that last bit of water. Yet even these trees have not survived the drought of Deadvlei!
