Eerie and fantastic

As I had promised to myself that I would capture the Milky Way rising over Rush Creek Waterfalls upon exiting the creek, I hiked back up to the lookout point, carrying my gear and sleeping bag once night fell. Because it was 1 ¼ mile hike each way in the dark and it’d be really late, I decided to sleep there. I composed my shot and waited. As I expected, the galaxy rose over the falls. And soon Jupiter went out of sight and Mars appeared. My eyes were fully adjusted to the surroundings in the dark. As the deafening sound of the waterfalls continued, and yet, my eyes couldn’t discern the subtle light spillage from the resort at the foot of the slope. And this created such an eerie and fantastic light painting effect that I had never expected.
