Limbo

A few of these magnificent Shy Albatross were hanging around our boat while we were fishing hoping for an easy meal. This one got close enough for me to get a shot I have wanted for years. Shy Albatross are listed as a Vulnerable species.
Tasman Sea. Seymour, Tasmania.

Behind The Lens

Location
I managed to get this photo as the sun was setting and a storm was building about a mile offshore from Bicheno on Tasmania's east coast.
Time
Very late in the day. The sun was just about to drop down behind the hills.
Lighting
This photo was taken with natural light only. I was a little concerned that I wouldn't have enough sunlight to light up the Albatrosses feet beneath the water.
Equipment
Canon G7x mark ii in a Meikon housing. Hand held. Single shot.
Inspiration
I just love these impressive birds and I have been trying to think of a unique way to show off their beauty above and below the water all at once.
Editing
Due to the darkness under the water I overexposed the shot a little so that the feet would be clearly visible. I lowered the brightness of everything above the water and added some contrast and sharpness and clarity to the overall image.
In my camera bag
Canon G7x mark ii and a Canon G16 for macro.
Feedback
I rely on getting these shots without using a dome lens. This means I only have a small port to get the split shot with. I also try and get the animal comfortable with my presence so that I can get as close as possible. Great patience is needed.
