Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in my garden. It had snowed in the night and Hagrid was getting excited to go out in it. But then it started to snow again and he was beside himself to get out there so I thought ok, this could be fun, and let him go

Time

It was about 11 am, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a good shot.

Lighting

The snow made it bright anyway, so I had to be careful with exposure.

Equipment

Canon EOS 7 camera with an L series 100-400 zoom. Handheld with no accessories.

Inspiration

His first experience of snow was the main driver for this photo, and the fact it was still snowing was a challenge in itself, as snowflakes could have interfered with his eyes etc. So I took lots of shots to try and avoid that.

Editing

Exposure had to be altered by about half a stop. Bit of vibrance to boost colour and cropped slightly.

In my camera bag

I carry my camera with me everywhere. Even when at work. Equipment is usually 3 lenses and maybe a monopod. 99% of my work is handheld, but you never know. When I go out to purposely take pictures, I take a backpack which holds all my equipment, which is more than enough.

Feedback

Patience is key, and don't skimp on the number of shots. Think about exposure as snow can look grey otherwise. Also consider portrait mode as landscape may not work as well.
