Location
I took this shot in my backyard. I was actually taking pictures of the birds at my feeder when this dragonfly decided to land close by and I was pleased with the way it turned out.Time
It was taken late-morning so I was a bit worried about the lighting however it added enough glow to highlight the wings.Lighting
Almost all my shots are with natural light. I enjoy nature photography so no need for artificial light.Equipment
I shoot with a Nikon D7100 normally loaded with my 70-300mm lens. It was handheld which most of my photos are.Inspiration
Because nature photography is my passion I try to capture any nature shot I can. Birds in the backyard are a favorite subject but butterflies and other insects give me the macro experience I need.Editing
I do some basic post-processing. This shot was cropped and sharpened to highlight the delicate wing features and detail. In my camera bag
I always have my D7100, usually loaded with my 70-300mm lens. I also keep a Coolpix P610 , usually for moon pictures. I have a macro, wide angle and 150-600mm lens also in the bag along with a few filters. I carry a tripod but I don't often use it.Feedback
The advice I try to give everyone is find a subject that you have a passion for and shoot a lot and often. Practice, practice, practice and patience is a real virtue, especially with nature photography. Don't be afraid to experiment with different settings, lens and subjects.
