The beauty of Milford sound in the Southland of New Zealand is absolutely breathtaking in every turn. Its just such a wonderful place to have in our stunning little country, this photo was shot right at the end of Autumn the beginning of winterTime
We arrived just as the sun was setting so grabbed our camera bag's and rushed out to the very muddy low tide line and got set up. It was about 7pm when i shot this photo just on the last of the golden hour.Lighting
The lighting was the beautiful tones of the day's last light the beautiful natural red's and oranges in the clouds. You really can't beat nature's lighting in a landscape like thisEquipment
The gear i used for this photo was literally my Canon 5DSR/ Canon 24-70mm L series lens. Manfrotto 550 tripod and ballhead.Inspiration
This was just one of the many beautiful photos i took during a trip with my good friend Glen "night and light photography" we had Milford sound on our plan for this trip and fate would have it we ended up being the only two people there for the entire night. The only way in is ether by boat or road through the Homer tunnel which has closed shortly after we arrived for maintenance. Milford sound is one of the most stunning landscapes in our little country and it's beauty inspires many people to visit.Editing
Vary little processing with this photo just a little shadow and highlight tweaksIn my camera bag
I carry a lot of stuff on a trip like this. i like being prepared for a quick change if scenery or plan . In my camera bag i have my two bodies the Canon 6D and 5DSR, Canon 70/200 L f2.8 i like for doing some nice tight landscape shots , Canon 24/70 f2.8 normally use this one for general purpose great lens. Samyang 14mm f2.8 is my go to wide angle lens i use this 80% of the time great affordable lens Samyang 24mm f1.4 great for really dark places really handy. Canon 50mm f1.4 i don't use this as much as i should it's another great light gathering lens.. two tripods carbon manfroto 055 and ballhead x2 Genie mini great for adding some dynamic movement to time lapse Two shutter releases cables for everything. Most the time I'll have my tablet as well as DJI Mavic Pro . All packed into the Mindshift 40L Firstlight. And lighting, headlamp torch and normally assorted batteries for everythingFeedback
timing is everything sunset and sunrise are the best time's and produces the best results as the light changes it softens and becomes more vibrant it essentially paints the landscape in stunning tones, it can be difficult sometimes to get the hole frame perfectly exposed but that's where a bit of exploration into trying different exposure time's and iso settings will be rewarding but don't take to long as the evening light changes quickly. Best advice i can give would be get out and shoot, shoot in different settings and find what work's. The best way to learn is by your mistakes, from figuring out what dosen't work will allow you to find what does. Get out and shoot have fun.
