Beautiful and sad at the same time. Good they have preserved this car as a reminder of the horrific events that took place there. May we never forget!

Location
This photo was taken as the sun rose at Auschwitz II/ Birkenau death camp in Poland.Time
It was about 6.45am as the sun rose, obscured by the fog. The guards let me in with the staff after i gave them both NZ Army caps so i was the only visitor in the camp, prior to the battalion strength tour groups who arrived as i was leaving.Lighting
Was trying to get a sense of foreboding, with the sun about to break, obscured by the early morning fog, made for pretty somber environment.Equipment
It took 37 hours to get there from New Zealand, so while the Canon 750D was pretty crucial, so was the passport and a bottle of rum to keep warm.Inspiration
I was looking at trying to achieve an image of respectful reflection on our past and how we have not learned from history's lesson.Editing
Converted to B&W. Corrected the white balance and contrast to enable the barracks, gatehouse tower to just be made out at the head of the railway while retaining the integrity of the guard tower in the middle ground. In my camera bag
Additional batteries, plastic bag for camera, Canon 55mm & 100-400 lenses, emergency rations and a map.Feedback
Enjoy the 4am start, smile a lot- works wonders.
