An unfortunate reality of living in Southern Oregon is being surrounded by wildfires for a large portion of our summers. The amount of work our firefighters around here put in is incredible. So thank you for your service, these forests and mountains are so incredible and it's so sad to see them up in flames.

At the same time nature provides us with some incredible scenes. Mountains, forests, fires, and the milky way combine to create this scene as seen from near the top of Mt. Ashland. The white lights are cars heading North on Interstate 5.

The fire isn't quite this bright to the naked eye, but the camera pics up the glow quite a bit. The firefighters are doing a good job of containing it, it's not quite as wild as the photo depicts.

A beautiful disaster.
