Location
This photo was made during a late afternoon shoot in my (then) daylight studio. I had south-facing windows that let in amazing light that fell off beautifully as you moved through the room.Time
Mid-to-late afternoon.Lighting
It was a cloudy day, so the available light was already diffused, and waning (given the time of day). It helped create a great mood and setting.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III // Sigma Art Lens 85mm f/1.4Inspiration
This model was herself, the inspiration. Beautiful woman, fully capable in front of the camera, and very deliberate about her expression and mood, and what she was trying to communicate.Editing
Frequency separation for skin blemishes; dodging and burning to enhance that naturally-occuring shadow and highlight. In my camera bag
Currently, the Canon 5Dsr, the 85mm f/1.4 Sigma Art lens. The Profoto B10+ is now a part of my go-to daily gear, with the Profoto 2' OCF beauty dish.Feedback
Take advantage of moody lighting that might otherwise be something you would try to avoid if you're go-to imagery is clean, commercial work, or bright and airy portraiture. Find those spaces where the light falls off and creates dramatic shadows on its own.
