Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my ranch in Uvalde, TX in late May of 2018

Time

It was approx. 8:15 AM

Lighting

Simply the morning light.

Equipment

Nikon D810, Tamron 150 - 600mm first version, tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I was photography migratory birds when the Black-chinned came in for a drink of water off the water drip.

Editing

I did my post-processing in LR CC. Cropped slightly and removed a sensor spot.

In my camera bag

Nikon D810 & D500, Nikon 200 - 500mm, Tamron 150-600mm, Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 G2, Tamron 17 - 35mm 2.8

Feedback

The best way to capture the hummingbird is to observe their pattern going to a feeder or to a drip and prefocus and then a lot of patience waiting for them to come back in and start clicking. Also, shutter speed is important when shooting without a flash photography. I tend to shoot at 1/1600 to 1/2400 sec to get detail, but also I prefer some wing blur for motion.
