The best way to capture the hummingbird is to observe their pattern going to a feeder or to a drip and prefocus and then a lot of patience waiting for them to come back in and start clicking. Also, shutter speed is important when shooting without a flash photography. I tend to shoot at 1/1600 to 1/2400 sec to get detail, but also I prefer some wing blur for motion.
