All butterflies have a thorax that is composed of three segments, each with a pair of legs. The White Peacock (Anartia jatrophae) belongs to the family Nymphalidae which is the largest family of butterflies with more than 6,000 species. Most species in the family have a reduced pair of forelegs. They are also called brush-footed butterflies or four-footed butterflies, because they are known to stand on only four legs while the other two are curled up.
