Behind The Lens

Location

Walking down the main street in New Hope, PA, I saw this window of a soap store, and loved the image of many rubber duckies in an old claw foot tub, surrounded by crumbling walls and peeling paint.

Time

I was in New Hope doing some Christmas shopping with my husband. It was somewhat cold, but still around the middle of the day. We had just had lunch at a quaint cafe down the street and on walking by this, I made my husband go into the store with me so I could also take some shots of the ducky filled tub from the inside. The sweet smell of the place did make my head swoon a bit.. and of course on Christmas Day one of my presents was soap from this store.

Lighting

It was a bit overcast, which is great mid-day, so natural lighting played a big part in the success of this shot.

Equipment

Since I was actually Christmas shopping, this was taken with my point & shoot camera - Canon PowerShot SX60 HS. It's the one camera I can take with me everywhere.

Inspiration

This was inspired by an upcoming camera club theme competition on children's toys. I was thrilled that I found something that matched the theme and yet still be art-worthy.

Editing

Basic post-processing - cropping and a bit of contrast.

In my camera bag

Lately because of a little ache in my shoulder, I just have this camera with me. On an actual photo shoot, I use a Canon 7D, with a Canon 70-200 L 2.8 lens.. and a Canon 17-55 E 2.8 lens.

Feedback

Always look for the unusual in even the most basic of settings.
