I'd been working on my LandRover engine that day and I decided not to wash my hands before I shot the image to give it that 'working hands' look. I had already planned the shot but it was only after working that day that I had the idea of shooting with unwashed hands to give the image a 'grunge' feel.Time
Evening in my house.Lighting
Simple and cheap LED lights on mini tripods.Equipment
Nikon D800E, Nikon 24-70mm and some small LED lights to cast the shadows.Inspiration
I had the idea for shooting something different for the 'Hands' competition but I had to overcome the obvious hurdle of how to shoot my own fingers. As you can see from the positioning, the camera had to be in front of me and because of the time needed to cross my hands and get into position the shot was not easy. In the end I did a couple of 'focus' shots and then got my wife to operate the camera.Editing
I used LightRoom to increase the contrast and sharpen the focus a little. In my camera bag
Nikon D800E, 14-24mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm (the holy trinity) along with a Nikon 105mm macro.Feedback
The competition title was hands and I simply sat and thought about how I could perhaps shoot my own hands but in a slightly different way. After a couple f minutes of looking at my hands and placing them in differing positions I came up with the composition as seen in the photo. The challenge then was how to operate the camera with my own hands in the shot.
