A lot of waterfalls in Illinois are rain dependent. After several inches of rain a few days before this shot I headed out on a late afternoon hike hoping this waterfall would be flowing strong. It was a long 4 mile hike on a very hot and humid day. When I rounded the canyon bend I was so excited to see this beautiful waterfall flowing strong and wide. This was the composition I had been waited for after some Spring rain. Sitting behind the waterfall inside the canyon cave was cool and refreshing. I am happy my passion for photography pushed me to venture out and capture one of the favorite images.

Great shot. I love Starved Rock it has some many great photography opportunities all year long. I really like going there in the winter to photograph the frozen falls.

Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Park are two of my favorite places to hike and enjoy my photography. Last year was my first year photographing the frozen waterfalls. I am so looking forward to going again this year!
