Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture at home. Jasper is my favorite "model" to use when I get new equipment or experimenting with something I learn through NYIP. In this case, I just wanted a great shot of him.

Time

I believe it was late afternoon but honestly I have slept since I took this shot.

Lighting

I have patio doors that I use to get natural light for Jasperbear's shot. I laid down on the floor so I would not cast a shadow over him in anyway.

Equipment

I used a Coolpix AW130 camera. I did not use any other equipment.

Inspiration

Jasper is always smiling and he had never sat still long enough for me to get anything other than my iPhone to capture him. This was an odd moment because I was able to grab it. This was a game changer now if I get my camera out he poses.

Editing

I use Lightroom for touch ups. On this particular shot, very little was done. I did do some vignetting to draw the eyes towards Jasper.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon D850 in my bag with my favorite lens, 28-300mm. I carry extra memory cards and a extra battery. I never want to get in a position where I find myself truly inspired and run out of power or storage. Outside my bag I carry my tripod. I do like to limit what I carry because I do not want anything to bulky or heavy. I have found the more you carry the less you can focus on what can be the next big shot.

Feedback

Patience. I believe in photography that is the biggest lesson to learn. In order to capture the best picture requires a capacity to slow down, breath and press the button. Photography is fun, love and capturing a moment in time forever. In order to capture that all elusive picture patience is the key. Explore all angles, look beyond the obvious and maybe you will surprise yourself!
