Location
The photo was taken in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada.Time
It was late morning.Lighting
I was fortunate to get some light clouds to help soften the sunlight.Equipment
Nikon D200, 70-200mm lens.Inspiration
Baby raccoons are cute.Editing
Normal photoshop stuff such as curves and saturation to make it pop because it was shot in raw. A bit of painterly effect from Topaz on a copied layer which was then selectively brushed in where I wanted it. Sharpening and vignetting for the web output. In my camera bag
This is several years later and I currently have a Nikon D500, Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 VRII, and Sigma 150-600mm. I always have a monopod if I am using my big lens and a tripod if possible. I also shoot from my kayak at times.Feedback
Be patient and keep yourself open to opportunities. Learn about your subject to narrow down the amount of time you need to spend waiting for or searching for them. Hide your human form creatively using nearby bushes, trees, or shooting from your car. Above all respect the animals and nature in general. Stay a safe distance from wildlife and respect private property.
