Behind The Lens

Location

This statue resides at Watt Munisotaram, Cambodian Buddhist temple, located in rural Hampton Minnesota.

Time

It was solidly in the afternoon when I got to this part of the grounds and captured this photo. Too early for golden hour light to bathe the grounds.

Lighting

The incoming storm helped soften the light and make it as dynamic as it was.

Equipment

I was shooting with my Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Inspiration

I was out exploring places near me that I had never been to. With the dark storm clouds taking over the sky it just contrasted nicely with the bright golden calm statue.

Editing

Dehaze and clarity to help the clouds feel like they did while I was standing there. Boosted the highlights and whites to keep the crispness of the statue while also bumping the shadows to show the details more.

In my camera bag

Too much. I usually have far too much for my backs own good, working on carrying less (ha.) Currently it is the 7D MkII 17-40mm f/4L, 24-105mm f/4L IS, 70-200mm f/4L, and my 100mm f/2.8 IS. Square filters I usually take are Lee Little, Big, and Super Stoppers with a 0.6 graduated hard edge. The odds and ends are an intervalometer, lens pen, spare battery, copy of my passport, and ear plugs. You know, the good stuff that saves the day.
