There is nothing like spending time under one of the darkest skies in the country. City dwellers have never experienced anything like this before. Utah has plenty of wide open spaces to see the milky way stretching from one side of the horizon to the other and this photo was taken right before sunrise only represents what the tail end of the spectacle looked like. Can you imagine what it looked like when we woke up at 2:40 am while hiking to get to this beautiful arch in the dark? It's like looking at city lights illuminating the sky, except that these lights are stars, planets, and galaxies that are millions of light years away. The craziest thought of it all... we could be looking at something that isn't even there any more.
