Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at night from a bridge over I635 north of Dallas

Time

It was about an hour after sunset

Lighting

I waited until it was pretty dark before I started shooting

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 5D Mk III and 16-35mm F2.8L lens

Inspiration

I was looking to do some long-exposure bridge shots and thought the location fit the bill pretty well

Editing

Light and color were enhanced somewhat in LightRoom

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 80D (I finally wore out the shutter in my trusty 70D) with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted, and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses, ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't plan shots beforehand - I'm a pretty impromptu/opportunistic photographer. I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 16-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

You want as long an exposure as possible - shoot in manual mode, set the exposure for as long as you can, the aperture pretty small, then play with ISO until you get the correct exposure...
