For hundreds of thousands of years the Truckee river has flowed from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake sustaining this vast inland sea. Just over 100 years ago dams were built to divert the river water for agriculture, fish populations were decimated and the lake receded. Now a small army of hydrologists, biologists, tribal members and lawyers are working to save the lake and it's wildlife. Here White Pelicans feed on a run of spawning fish swimming up the Truckee river just below some fish ladders.
