Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a Garden towards the Douro River pier where fisherman stand fishing, in Porto, Portugal

Time

This photo is only possible with sunset, as the sun sets behind the peer in the Atlantic ocean just right behind them. Between 5 pm and 7 pm. The distance to obtain these small figures was almost a 1 mile away, about 950 meters distance.

Lighting

Had to wait for the time for the sun to give the exact backlight needed. Pulled the Shutter speed up so it would give me this black figures, less light would enter. Specs: Shutter speed 1/1600 F14 ISO 800

Equipment

Used a Canon 70D with a Tamron 18-270mm on maximum zoom and speed so figures could become silhouettes.

Inspiration

This was a really occasional photo, as I turned back to the horizon to watch or search for a photo.....and saw these figures really far away and decided to set the camera, point....look through the viewfinder and decided to take the shot.

Editing

Yes, I did post-processing. Selected the sky and tinted it white, it was almost white too so I finished. The pier was greyed out and so I just selected the bottom and painted black the background white to obtain this contrast.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon 70D, Sigma 17-50 F2.8, Tamron 18-270mm for really zoom objects and my GoPro 4 for different perspectives.

Feedback

Sometimes the shots won't come up easy, just sit, relax, think in life, in whatever you need to...look, think, wait, maybe tomorrow it will come up. It happened to me already, that I took a shot and at the same place same hour on the day before, the scenario wasn't set for a great shot...It happens! got to be patient.
