Getting in is the easy part, sliding rock wall! Getting out you have to go behind a waterfall and then skip on rocks over a pond. :-D

Location
This photo was taken in Sintra, Portugal. I’m currently on a year long backpacking adventure through Europe and I am taking every opportunity to explore new and wonderful places.Time
After spending a full day exploring the castles and parks within Sintra, our day was coming to a close. We stumbled upon this amazing and unique well and I was instantly mesmerized. This photo was taken at 4:42 PM on April, 14th. The remainder of my time was spent venturing down through this wells spiral staircase and eventually coming out behind a waterfall and over stepping stones on a pond.Lighting
The lighting for this photo was well balanced from the trees over head. As the sun was arcing down, it let just enough light fall into the top of the well entrance. The reflection from the light hitting the small amount of water at the bottom of the well added a touch of depth I was looking for.Equipment
The photo was taken on my IPhone 6S. No other equipment was needed. I used a downward arcing panoramic shot to capture the full depth of this ancient structure.Inspiration
The mystery and excitement of exploring within Portugal affords many opportunitys for a new photographer like myself. This one location is without a doubt my favorite and it captured my heart. I spent, what seemed like hours just enjoying the views afforded by this magical place and when I finally decided to capture it, I took my time to get just the right angle.Editing
As man made wells tend to be on the darker side, I raised the ambient light slightly and overlaid a small amount of definition to bring out the moss, foliage and stonework. In my camera bag
Cleaning wipes and a power bank with charge cord are what I always keep on hand. That and a good amount of water because taking good photos is hard work! ;)Feedback
With my own photography, I find that you’ve got to learn to trust your instincts. Finding the right angle, the right lighting and the right subject shouldn’t be a chore but a constant learning experience. Don’t rush and don’t worry about the outcome. As long as you’re having fun you’ll capture what you were meant to see. Good luck and stay steady!
