I took this portrait of my grandmother while going to the Gangasagar pilgrimage, West Bengal, India in a bus.Time
This image is very close to my heart. It was taken on 14th January, 2012 at around 5 PM, in the late afternoon when we were traveling in a bus to the pilgrimage site. The setting sun created this melancholic expression on my grandmother's wrinkled face.Lighting
I wanted to take the advantage of soft winter sunlight to encapsulate the furrowed face which created this dramatic impression.Equipment
This picture was shot on a Nikon D5000, with an 18 - 55mm lens.Inspiration
In my childhood, when I had no access to camera I was into painting, mostly pencil sketches. The great painters and sculptors always inspired me with their outstanding portraits and sculptures. Those portraits often play an important role in my photography.Editing
Yes, I did some post processing work in this frame such as changing color balance, saturation, increase clarity and rectify the white balance and shadow details. In my camera bag
The first thing I always pack in my bag is the Nikon D7000 and then Nikon 50mm prime lens. I love to take portrait shot so the prime lens is necessary. Besides that I always carry a Tamron 10 - 24mm wide angle lens and Nikon 70 - 300mm telephoto lens. Oh! the last thing is a tripod and a lens cleaner.Feedback
As they say, “The face is the mirror of mind”. So to capture a portrait one must perceive the soul of the person to be photographed. The photograph must reflect the personality, characteristics and the emotion that very person possesses. A portrait should not only be a piece of art but also a memory of the bygone days.
