This shot was taken on the way up to the summit of Quamby Bluff just outside Deloraine in Tasmania.Time
It was mid to late afternoon so the sun was softer as we climbed up the southern side of the mountain.Lighting
It was in a rainforest and it was shared by the mountain which meant it was a softer light which is nicer when shooting photos big people bin these kinds of scenesEquipment
I was using my trusty canon 600D with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. Handy for this sort of stuff.Inspiration
It was quite a magical little piece of forest and I turned around to check on my sister (in frame) and she had stopped for a little rest right between these two trees and it just looked so great and I was holding my camera so I just got her to look out into the rainforest to give a bit more of a sense of mystery. The moss also I think helps with that feeling of enchantment.Editing
To be honest I didn't do much. I think I might have just fiddled with the light and shadow to bring a bit of depth to the image especially around darkening a little bit around the edges to draw the eye in to the subject.In my camera bag
I usually carry a tripod, some NDS, and a few lenses like a 10-18mm, 17-50mm Tamron, 50mm f1.8 Prime, and a 50-200mmFeedback
Light is always the most important part of these shoots and time of day or time of year. If the light is too harsh it brings out too much light and dark which is always hard to make work. For these sorts of shots the light has to be a lot softer and a lot more subtle otherwise you'll wash out your subject.
