Location
I took this particular photo near to where I work. I'm fortunate to work in the countryside and I've often spotted this tree and thought one day you'll be my "model".Time
It was mid afternoon and the sun had moved round to cast a small shadow on the rapeseed flowers. Early morning and the sun is head on which makes it a bit more difficult.Lighting
I had to wait till after mid day to get the sun on the right hand side of the tree. As it was May the sun was pretty much straight on for most of the morning.Equipment
My trusty old Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I love its versatility and I'm never without it. The only equipment I used was the camera and my works van to stand on to get the height to get the tree in the frame. The field rolls down from a single track road and goes up slightly at the opposite side. After this is a motorway so it makes it very difficult to get a shot of the tree without any other distractions. The van roof came in very handy.Inspiration
The lone tree itself was the inspiration. There's nothing else in the field apart from the tree and whatever crop has been sewn. I pass it so many times that it was ridiculous that I hadn't stopped before.Editing
The only post-processing was a little crop. I'm not really a fan of post-processing apart from a bit of cropping and a bit expousre adjustment. In my camera bag
When I took the shot all I had in my bag was the FZ1000 and a few different filters. I had a tripod but didn't use it.Feedback
All I'd say is choose your time of day carefully. I'd driven past the tree many times so had an idea of when I wanted to stop. It's normally wheat in the field so it never appeared to be quite as dramatic as when the field was awash with yellow flowers and the sun was shining on it.
