Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a friend’s house. He’d recently discovered two kittens and adopted them.

Time

This photo was taken early in the afternoon.

Lighting

It was a sunny day but there was quite a bit of shade created by the tree. Because I was getting quite close to the kitten, I didn’t want to use the flash.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D750 and Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 handheld. No flash as that would disturb the kitten.

Inspiration

I had time on my hands and the kitten seemed to be in a playful mood. I hadn’t used this lens much and wanted to play with it a bit to check the quality.

Editing

I did very little in post- processing. Mostly, I just cropped it and then fiddled with the exposure to lighten it a bit.

In my camera bag

I carry a big bag. I have traded up since this photo and always keep two Nikon D850s in my bag as well as a Speedlight and an assortment of lenses.

Feedback

Small animals love to play so give them an opportunity. Tease them with a bit of grass or a ball or a squeaky toy. Take as many shots as you can and try different angles. I took a bunch of pictures of this kitten before settling on the ones I liked.
