This is a stitched pano taken late in the afternoon. Uluru is the traditional owner's name for what the Europeans called Eyre's Rock after the celebrated explorer. It is estimated that the underground volume of rock is 6 times that which we can see above ground. The local indigenous people have many sacred sections of the rock, some being specifically for women and others for men.
Clearly, the late afternoon sun highlights the colours and contours. The spinifex grass offers fabulous contrast.
