Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was made in Croatia, in the area near Pirovac (between the sea and the nearby Lake Vransko).

Time

It was long ago, and this hard to remember. Since the original medium was film, there's no Exif data to check. However, it was pretty early in the morning, which explains the amount of frozen dew on the gossamer strands.

Lighting

Daylight and nothing but Daylight, so help me... ;) thus, the lighting that no artificial light can ever hope to replace.

Equipment

I can't be quite certain, but my fave camera in those days was an Olympus IS3000, excellent bridge camera which was a joy to use. What i am sure of is the material. It was Fujichrome Sensia (100ASA) which I found nigh perfect for majority of jobs, and I was swimming in the "pro" waters at the time.

Inspiration

Inspiration, that's easy. It was sheer and undiluted beauty of the Nature's creation - and I reckon, no photographer "worth their salt" would pass by such a scene without recording this delicate and short-timed sculpture.

Editing

Obviously the slidefilm frame had to be digitized, and the resulting file had to be optimized for presentation. This comprises the balance of color to as closely alike to the original, and correcting the frame (making a tad closer crop). The final version was then resized for upload. Simple.

In my camera bag

A standard question here gets a standard answer! So I have this answer ready, and just cleverly copy / paste! I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip, while my photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one photo clamp standing in for a tripod. Recently I include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest also has large-lens pockets that contain a small water bottle, sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. My smartphone comes along too. It has yet another spare camera, but more importantly the Spirit Level App to make the phone a perfectly horizontal surface under the camera. This is essential for panoramic sweeps. The app is free, and requires no extra permissions whatsoever. The large back pocket of the vest is reserved for a lightweight rain poncho. If the weather suddenly plays up, the poncho neatly covers all. Using the tools mentioned above, much can be improvised along the way, so that's all I need to make photos.

Feedback

You've heard of Murphy's Laws? Sure. Translated in photographese, it means that when you go out for landscapes, the Chance will show you the most amazing macros imaginable... or when you're working a wedding, there will be a most amazing sunset out there, especially when you mustn't leave the occasion to shoot it! What I'm trying to say is, always be prepared for just about any kind of theme in just about any time. This is a thing aimed to torment those "one-theme" photogs, just to show them what all can be missed. So BE PREPARED, as the Scouts would say, and keep your eyes busy! Beauty can and does actually just so happen, unannounced. Have a Good Light - and be ready to appreciate it!
