Location
This photo was taken in my living room after moving the sofa and coffee table to give us enough room to shoot .Time
We shot this in the afternoon but being inside and a relatively cloudy day I didn't cover the windows the ambient light wasn't a factor in this shoot .Lighting
For lighting I used a Westcott 43" octa with a grid as my key and a strip as a back light /rim both with Elinchrome brx 500 lightsEquipment
I used a Canon 5dmark3 with a Sigma 24-35 art lens (great lens ,one of my favorites) for flash i used Elinchrome brx 500, in Westcott softboxes.Inspiration
I wanted do do a blank and gold inspired shoot with Geraldine for a long time. I feel the color gold is so beautiful on black skin for this particular image I converted to black & white because the tones lent themselves perfectly for it but I usually don't do much monochrome.Editing
For post I like to keep it to a minimum ,I added texture to the background a little skin retouching ( she has great skin it helps ) ,some dodge & burn and a black & white conversion all in lightroom and photoshopIn my camera bag
In my bag i have a Canon 5dmiii ,a few essential lenses the Canon 70-200 f2.8 ,Sigma 24-35 f2 art and a new addition the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 . as you can see I love my wide angles ! I also carry around a few speedlights and a tripod and very important the lightmetre.Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment with lights ,take your time placing them and moving them sometimes a few inches higher or more to the side will make all the difference . Use your lights close to your subject . And the most important have fun it always shows in the end results !!!
