Behind The Lens

Location
This shot was taken in a snall studio with a simple, basic light set up aimed at lighting only one side of the model. Monochrome seems to produce such a good atmospghere when shooting artnude. Much more interesting than colour.
Time
The nice thing about shooting in a studio now and again is that everything is under your control. No need to worry about anything outside. best to shut out the weather and the time of day and invent your own world.
Lighting
I wanted the shot to be obviously nude but without all the unneeded detail. Pushing the lighting to illuminate one side much more strongly than the other helped with this, making a somewhat mysterious atmosphere.
Equipment
I shot this with my Lumix GX7 with an Olympus Pro 12-150 lens set at about 25mm. Flash was provided by Godox with two rectangular softboxes. The background was a grey roller backdrop.
Inspiration
I love movement and dance and wanted to capture how the body moves rather than how the clothes moved. Shooting a beautiful and talented model was a bonus!
Editing
This didn't need much post-processing. A little tweak to take out a few marks on the backdrop and a litte darkening round the edges of the frame to help centralise the main subject.
In my camera bag
My bag....because my little mirrorless camera is so small and neat I can fit a lot into my bag. A drink, a sandwich, a packet of mints and ..oh yes...my camera, usually with the 12-150mm lens attached as my go to lens. I prefer to be mobile rather than weighed down.
Feedback
Play. Remember that the camera always lies and that's our licence to create not only the images we see, but also those we imagine. Don't always have a fixed, preconcieved plan of what you want. Be prepared to experiment, explore and see what happens, especially when working with models. Too much direction can easily stifle someone who knows better than you do how they move and what their limits are.
