Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in North Ayrshire Scotland. Between Beith and Glengarnock at a spot known as Tianna falls.

Time

It was taken about 1-2 pm on a dull cold overcast day in Scotland ( not something we normally get lol) the falls are in a deep sided natural gully / ravine. That at the time was very slippery due to recent rainfall and the muddy sodden conditions.

Lighting

The lighting as I stated was dull and flat due to the overcast conditions and the dull area the falls are in with the sun being not only behind clouds but the angle it would have been at the time leaving the falls in shadow.

Equipment

The camera was a canon EOS 7d mkii with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens, the tripod was a K&F Concept KF-TM2534T tripod. No flash used.

Inspiration

Seeing other photography of the area myself and a friend wanted to find the location to do a scouting mission so we can return to it later in the year (we are still to return to it)

Editing

I always shoot RAW so I can tweak an image in Lightroom and photoshop. This image was brightened up about 15% and a little cloning done to remove some water spots on the lens.

In my camera bag

Normally I have 2 camera bodies the canon 7d mkii and a Panasonic Lumix G7 ( micro four thirds camera). I use canon fit lenses so the bag has a nifty 50 mm, and tge tokina 11-16, a canon 70-200mm f2.8, sigma 18-105mm, and a sigma 105mm f2.8 macro. Add to that I normally always carry attached to the lumix g7 a canon lens adapter to use them on the G7.

Feedback

Be careful, the area around here was wet and the ground was sodden so either wellies (gum boots) or good sturdy walking boots. Even then I and my friend slipped quite a lot due to the muddy conditions. So take your time and watch your footing a picture isn’t worth doing yourself an serious injury over.
