Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a zoological park in Bengaluru, India.

Time

This photo was taken at around 11AM. I was accompanying my friend's family who were new to this place and wanted to visit. We were on a safari, looking for all types of wild animals, and in a moment two lions have appeared. They were playing with each other, and the sound from the crowd got their attention towards us. I was waiting for this moment to get a picture of lion looking at the viewer. This lion was curious about the device I am holding, and it kept on looking at the camera for a while.

Lighting

It was mid day when I took this photo, there was Ambient light.

Equipment

I have used a Nikon D5200 Camera, AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR lens. I have not used a tripod, this was a hand held shot. No external flash used.

Inspiration

I was inspired by a photographer named Atif Saeed, A Pakistan Based Photographer. He got very popular with the back story of the photos he has captured. While he was taking the pictures of lion, the lion charged at him and he was in the range of the attack. Editing

There were areas which had harsh lighting. I have corrected them by decreasing the highlights and boosting the shadows.

In my camera bag

I carry a Nikon D5200, 50mm prime lens, 70-300mm lens, 18-55mm lens. Extra batteries for camera and power bank for mobile.

Feedback

I always liked capturing moments happening around me. In wild life photography you need to be patient. If you have the shot that you want in mind that is very great, and you should be more patient. The best thing about wild life photography is you will not be able to instruct the subject, so keep moving around the subject until you get the shot you need. I keep learning things from every photo I capture, so have the composition and framing in mind and keep clicking.
